Security arrangements had been beefed up across the county and all arrangements to welcome Deputy President William Ruto was set when he received reports that millions meant to transform the livelihood of locals were being squandered in an event benefiting the salaried county staff.

As Governor Chepkwony’s government allocated event sh. 40 million to be wasted during the event, it suffers unequipped hospitals and incomplete projects such as Roret Pineapple factory, Sweet potato value addition plant, acute water shortage, and immense unemployment.

Due to lack of transparency-related reasons, the Members of County Assemblies pulled out of KICOSA leaving it purely for County Government employees. With the exemption of hotel industries and small scale traders that hawk sweets and biscuits, the event has zero benefits to a taxpayer suffering a lack of market and poor prices of their farm produce.
An insider told the Rift News that Chepkwony struck the deal last week in Bomet of having DP Ruto grace the event where he immediately updated his diary for the event until yesterday mid-morning when he was advised to keep off the event that would soil his reputation.
A jubilee official who spoke with the condition of anonymity said the county is fond of overturning priorities alleging that over 700 youth that underwent paramilitary training are still languishing in poverty.
“ We are not opposed to the games, but spending such huge amounts of money should be channeled to projects and activities with direct benefit to the citizenry,” the official said
However, the DP’s failure to attend the event has ignited complaints from the locals who allege that the DP has affection for Bomet more than Kericho while others allege that he goes to Bomet because of Isaac Ruto’s opposition.
