“My attention has been drawn to a news item carried by Citizen Television (TV) on Sunday, May, 19, 2019 in relation to a meeting of Chama Cha Mashinani (CCM) delegates from Uasin Gishu, Nandi, Narok and Bomet counties.
In the bulletin, the station carried an item which purports that during the delegates meeting which I hosted at my rural home in Bomet on Saturday, May, 19, 2019, that I had joined a team that is anti- Deputy President William Ruto.
I wish to set the record straight that at no time did we discuss matters relating to the Deputy President, political camps or alignments – and unedited footage on the entire meeting is available. Our position as a party and which stands is that CCM is an independent political party that has a unique philosophy and basis for its formation including entrenching devolution, decentralization of power, services and resources closer to the people at the grassroots, public participation, respect to the constitution and embracing all tenets of democracy.
It is also our position that the democratic space should be expanded to accommodate small parties to thrive and people be allowed to make independent choices of the leaders they want in future election and zoning for some political parties should not arise.
To purport that we discussed the Deputy President is an attempt to drive a wedge between CCM, its members, the leadership and a section of the political elite and other parties – which is not our business.Much as I respect and root for media independence –and my record speaks for itself – the same should be exercised with professionalism that is devoid of innuendos.”
