Today, the Deputy President William Ruto hosted a galaxy of Kericho leaders in his Karen home in what is seen as a move to shield them from growing rebellion being spread by backsliders who are shifting loyalty to team “Kieleweke”.
The leaders included Governor Paul Chepkwony, Energy CS Charles Keter, Senator Aron Cheruiyot, DG Susan Kikwai, County Assembly Speaker Dominic Rono and Members of County Assembly.
However, all Member of National Assembly from the region were conspicuously absent and our quick investigation reveals that all of them are his loyalists and there is no need to woo them.
There has been cold working relationship among CS Keter, Prof. Chepkwon Ruto’s and Sen. Aron who are all reported to secretly fighting to contain the county’s politics in the sight of both the locals and nation level.
To avert possible damages, DP Ruto who is gradually sealing all loopholes in the rift as he prepares for presidential race, has embarked on a mission to impede rebellion in his backyard as he seeks support from other communities.
Tug of war is anticipated between Aron Cheruiyot and Charles Keter who are secretly bracing up to race for the gubernatorial seat to replace Prof. Chepkwony who is consolidating his legacy towards retirement.
Though Chepkwony vied on Jubilee ticket, he is perceived as half-hearted in party politics and if not well tied, he might think of shipping to the other camp of Isaac Ruto and Gideon Moi come 2022.
The leaders took a list of proposed development projects for the region which include; Expansion of Kericho-Litein road, relocation of Kericho Police county headquarters, construction of dams to address water shortage, relocation of main Prison from the heart of Kericho and a list of roads that needs tarmacking across all the six constituencies.
“Though our main agenda was to forward list of development projects that need to be done in Kericho, unity talks also emerged” MCA from Kericho said
She revealed that the DP warned them against being misled and to promote unity of purpose so as to deliver promises they made to locals during campaigns.
Since last year, DP Ruto has been meeting leadership from different counties to discuss on development matters and build network of friendship ahead of 2022.
